My Southern Journey: True Stories from the Heart of the South
My Southern Journey: True Stories from the Heart of the South (Rick Bragg, 2015)
How I stumbled upon it: My Aunt Nancy gave it to me last year and I finally got around to finishing the whole thing!
What it's about: Essays and excerpts from Rick Bragg's columns in Southern magazines and more widely circulated national publications like ESPN and GQ. All of the essays focus on what it means to be Southern and to live and love in the South, and some of them have never been published before this book.
What I thought: Y'all all know how I feel about Southern living! I loved reading about the place where I grew up and the types of people that I grew up with. There is something really special about reading essays that take you right back to where you feel the most at home--especially since Rick Bragg really knows how to paint a picture. Some of the essays are poignant and some are hilarious but they all are delightfully well written. Well worth a read even for y'all Yankees.
