Your Brain at Work
Your Brain at Work: Strategies for Overcoming Distraction, Regaining Focus, and Working Smarter All Day Long (David Rock, 2009)
How I stumbled upon it: We are reading it as a team at work!
What it's about: This book follows Emily and Paul as two hypothetical but also extremely busy people working in fast-paced environments. Throughout their day, David Rock examines the decisions they are making and the science behind it. By the end of the book, Rock has explained why your brain works the way it does in different scenarios, especially when relating to prioritization, focus, and collaboration. This book is a good resource if you want to understand how to help your brain work in the most effective way possible.
What I thought: Y'all know my attention span could be better, and it seems David Rock knows it, too. This book was so insightful and really changed the way that I think about time management and prioritization of tasks. The best thing I learned was that when I'm mentally exhausted, it's not my fault! The brain is crazy impressive, but you need strategies to help you be your best and most productive self. If you have a lot of things on your plate right now, this book will help you find a way to do it all without driving everyone around you crazy!
