A Man Called Ove

A Man Called Ove

A Man Called Ove (Frederik Backman, 2012)

How I stumbled upon it: Everyone kept recommending it to me until I finally bought it!

What it's about: Ove is grumpy.  He’s so, so, grumpy and he’s determined to stay that way.  But new neighbors arrive and slowly start chipping away at the wall that Ove has built around his grumpy little heart.  This book is funny and uplifting and sad and wonderful all at once.

What I thought: I really liked My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She’s Sorry, but I will always pick A Man Called Ove if I was forced to choose.  His complete lack of tact and emotional intelligence as a character is infuriating until it is completely charming.  Once you find out more about Ove’s past and his relationship with his wife, your heart will melt into a million pieces. I cried. 10/10.
