Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine (Gail Honeyman, 2017)
How I stumbled upon it: Reese Witherspoon’s book club!
What it's about: Eleanor Oliphant is...quirky...to say the least. She is extremely socially awkward and enjoys a good routine (read: pizza + vodka on Friday nights). She meets Raymond, who is just a nice man working IT at her company, and when an old man falling injured on the street needs their help, they are suddenly lumped together in a story of unlikely friendship. This is a book that will make you laugh from awkwardness, cry for the demons in Eleanor’s past, and make you want to reread A Man Called Ove.
What I thought: I really liked this one, and I flew through it. It’s a good summer read with a surprise ending and really unique, flawed, + quirky characters that aren’t always found in novels this easy to read. Did I love it? Not the way that I have loved other recent reads, but lots of friends will argue that it is the best book they’ve read in years, so you should still give it a try!
