Driving the Saudis: A Chauffeur’s Tale of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness on Rodeo Drive
Driving the Saudis: A Chauffeur’s Tale of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness on Rodeo Drive (Jayne Amelia Larson, 2013)
How I stumbled upon it: In the nonfiction/memoir section at McKay's bookshop in Nashville, TN.
What it's about: Jayne Amelia Larson, an actress who became a driver in Los Angeles and ended up on the insane journey of being the only female driver on a team of 40 drivers hired to look after and drive the Saudi royal family while they were in Los Angeles.
What I thought: I liked it because I am incredibly nosy. I wanted to know how they spent money, where they shopped, how they treated their wives and staff, what their lives of limitless money and possibility were like. It was part gossip and part meaningful insight into the personal lives of the royal family and their entourage. It is so different from anything else I have read in the last few years that it has stuck with me even months after finishing it. Recommended!
