The Immortalists
The Immortalists (Chloe Benjamin, 2018)
How I stumbled upon it: Belletrist book club!
What it's about: Three siblings living in New York City visit a psychic who can tell them the exact day of their deaths. One visit with this traveling gypsy and the children’s lives are changed forever. The Immortalists follows the four children as they grow up and lead drastically different lives (army doctor, magician, flower child, scientist), while struggling with whether or not to believe the prophecy that will dictate how long they have to find happiness or make an impact.
What I thought: I thought it was pretty good! I finished the novel over a weekend and it is definitely very readable. I had just finished The Rules of Magic which is a similar premise and I preferred it, but I probably would have been more impacted by The Immortalists if it wasn’t read right after. That being said, I would still recommend this novel full of characters with a lot of depth + really developed sibling dynamics.
