The Light We Lost (Jill Santopolo, 2017)

How I stumbled upon it: Reese Witherspoon’s book club!

What it's about: Lucy and Gabe met while in college on 9/11 and the story of their friendship + love that stems from that day spans a thirteen-year journey throughout the novel.  It’s set with the ever-romantic + complex backdrop of NYC and we follow Lucy + Gabe as they navigate graduation, careers, families, and the feeling that they are forever intertwined.

What I thought: Here’s what I’ll say: if you liked One Day, you will probably like this book.  Just like One Day, I was surprised by the ending but not in a good way.  I still think it’s worth reading for the fast plot + character development, but I thought the ending was overdone + a little too cliche.   I would still recommend it because I enjoyed reading it, but I can’t get over being disappointed at 2am in a hotel room on a work night.

You can get it here.
